So I am trying out this Path Finder software thing. It’s a sort of Mac OS X Finder replacement, and in fact, it will replace the Finder if you tell it to. After all, the Finder is really just a program running on top of Mac OS X.

I have to say it does really improve the usability of the Mac. I suppose I really have not been owning the deficiencies of the Mac OS X finder. Well, there are some, like for example, the column view only sorts in alphabetic order. This is really really annoying. Path Finder allows you to change that. The other thing is that the Desktop becomes messy really quickly. Path Finder doesn’t let that happen. And by the way, I recently read that the Desktop in the Finder is basically a hack anyway, because the icons on there are really just cleverly presented windows that take up system resources.

My third gripe with the Finder is that it takes forever to search for files. Path Finder doesn’t have that problem. It would almost create a world where you didn’t have to file things. That would be wierd.

In any event, give it a whirl:

Bellevue city leaders said Tuesday they will provide the same employment benefits to partners of gay workers as they now provide to married employees. It looks like it’s not defensible in 2007 to tell the community, “we can’t afford to treat people equally.” I’m still not adding to that city’s tax base until the change is made, though. We wish them well, of course.
