I am in the process of removing Sony products from my life and lifestyle, starting with my iPod headphones.

I have always sought a good pair of phones to use with my iPod and am the kind of person that just doesn’t use the default that comes with the device. Plus, I’m not into the white colored headphones thing. They stand out too much. They were cool when only three people had iPods, but now everyone has one. But I digress.

The Sony’s I had been using sounded great, but ultimately were nothing but trouble, because the cushions kept coming off. No matter how hard I tried to preserve them, I kept losing them, and no cushion, no headphone. I’ve actually had to scour airplane aisles and street corners for those rubbery things, which are perfectly engineered to bounce about a quarter of a mile when dropped, and then blend in perfectly with the streetscape when coming to rest. I had become so co-dependent without realizing it, that I was carrying around a set of 3 spare headphone cushions (one can never be without their music).

I finally spied this set from Sennheiser, whose headphones I have always liked, since I was in high school. Now they have created products for portable music devices. They sound great, and don’t have cushions that I have to worry about. Other added bonus is that I can leave them in my ear and still hear what is going on. They make versions that are waterproof (and green colored, not ready for that), as well as these more business-y ones.

Plus, who uses Sony products anymore? This is the 21st Century.

I love this notice from my local public library (which I dearly love and enjoy using on a regular basis) about the compatibility of their digital books.

So basically, “We’re sorry that this taxpayer funded institution purchased a service that is incompatible with 70% of the digital audio media players that our patrons use. Please feel free to check out the title in our extensive collection of betamax videocassettes.”

Okay, I added the last part for irony. At least they included the information that they are incompatible before people like me go to the trouble to use the service.
