I found out about this book in this month’s Fast Company magazine and I immediately went for it. Even paid money for it (as opposed to go ing to the library, which doesn’t have it in stock yet).
I don’t know if there have been other books published on this subject, but as far as I know there aren’t. What’s fascinating about it is that it examines the lives of people who work for and with gay people as opposed to gay people themselves. And the results are startling. The survey data shows that staff of gay managers/executives are more devoted and engaged to the companies they work for.
This is a great book for self-reflection, and really nice to see a diversity-positive work like this come out during pride season. In many companies, it seems that to talk about diversity, even in “friendly” places, is a struggle. It should just come naturally that employees who are supported in being honest with themselves and with others should get ahead, because they are helping the customers and investors get ahead.
