The news is buzzing lately about Apple Computer being sued by Burst, Inc. I thought this article in Businessweek paints a more full picture of what is / is not going on. Like most stuff in this realm, I bet the “truth is out there somewhere.”
On the one hand, you want to emphathize with the little guy who may have demonstrated a new way to do something cool to the big guy, who then took it and made a lot of money off of it (that’s the allegation). On the other hand, you don’t want to empathize with the little guy who may be ultimately preventing important innovation from reaching a lot of people. For better or for worse, the article says that Burst’s founder made $2.5 million off of the Microsoft settlement. How much more should be extracted from consumers at this point?
Best of luck to the winner, whoever that is.
