This whole time I’ve been using regular shuffle instead of “party shuffle” and enduring all of that lousy Josh Groban. Wait, I deleted him off of my iPod during the last purge. Ahhh..that’s better.

link to iTunes productIn contrast to the aforementioned disaster involving Natasha Bedingfield is the video for Gwen Stefani’s “Cool.” This one has shades of Marilyn Monroe/Madonna “Express Yourself”/Maroon 5 “She Will Be Loved.” And don’t think we didn’t pick up the whole Madonna on the bed allusion, Ms. S. This one makes you want to get the song if you don’t already have it. Gwen is lining up a pretty impressive reputation as a video artist, I must say. She tends to be pretty first class in this department.

I am READY to buy my video iPod!

Probably one of the best albums ever produced. Using it to test my new automated posting of iTunes selections on the blog. It works! Thank you, Applescript.

link to iTunes productSometimes, the video that is produced for a song just doesn’t measure up. I have been a fan of the Natasha Bedingfield song “These Words” ever since it came out in May. So now, it’s popular. That’s great. I happened to be watching MTV Hits the other day (it’s MTV where they actually play music) and the video came on for the song. What the…..the dancing boom box, the vintage Cyndi Lauper look? The whole thing is kind of raw. Sometimes you wish you’d never seen a video for a good song. I have to classify this one in that camp. I did get to see the video for another of Natasha’s songs on Alaska Airlines (for “I Bruise Easily”) - that was much better. The song’s still worth a download anyway.

Okay, the CSS errors I found are now fixed. It seems that once you learn CSS and you leave it for like 5 minutes, you forget everything about it. Thank goodness for O’Reilly books. All the way around.

I am settling into both this theme and Wordpress. I need to dismantle my former photoblog next and come up with a solution for those photos. That should be enjoyable. When that’s done, I will completely shut down my Movable type installation forever. Waah….

Interestingly, the Movable Type folks are releasing their new version 3.2 tomorrow, allegedly. It actually looks quite cool. I guess there’s never a good time to end a relationship.

Oh, and movies play again. One thing I am probably going to venture into is password protection of posts. Wordpress allows you to do that, and you know what, I don’t really need the world to see every photo on this blog.

I’m moving over to this more zen-like theme for now. I liked the creamy coffee cup but I didn’t like the size of the image or the coloring. Too clean and bland. Like Canada!

This also spells the end of the line for Movable Type for me.

I really enjoyed starting my blogging journey using Movable Type - it’s a great beginner’s blog and easy to learn.

Wordpress has me captivated, though. I love the simplicity and the fact that it is built natively to generate pages dynamically. It has great anti-spam control (knock on titanium) and seems to be more compatible with the open source stuff that’s out there.

I would probably still recommend that Apple Computer buy Movable Type for it iBlog application (I know nothing about Apple’s plans, just a big fan wondering when .Mac will support blogging). On the other hand Wordpress is more open source-y. Well Apple will do what Apple thinks its customers want.

In the meantime, I want Wordpress.

Oh, and this theme has a few CSS errors. Or maybe my XHTML has errors. So excuse them while I clean things up.

Movies are broken again. Fun!

So here’s the thing.

We went to see Red Eye yesterday.

But before I get into the movie, I have to declare that Gameworks is the new Cheesecake Factory for dinner. Hands down. Easy. Cheap (1/2 off bar food!). Convenient. No line. The food is just as bad for you, too. File that away for future reference.

Now, the movie. It was good, it held my attention and it was the right length (less than 2 hours).

Here’s the problem. In retrospect, it was trying to be so incredibly politically-correct-walk-the-fence-so-everyone- is happy that it was disturbing.

You have the young woman heroine (1 point for women’s lib). You have the misunderstood Homeland Security Director who is a really nice guy with a nice wife and kids (1 point for the right wing). You have the opie-cute hit man conspiracy guy (1 point for affirmative action). You have the ditzy blonde hotel staff member who gets it together (1 point for the blonde movie goer?)

Is it possible that there’s now a rule in Hollywood that no one can be offended by anything? I am not suggesting that people write offensive movies. But maybe there’s more to see than movies about people trying to terrorize and blow up people. How about movies about sharing feelings and emotions? When you have those movies, you don’t have to cast someone of every political and demographic persuasion, because you’re just doing the right thing to begin with.

Just my opinion. And it’s my blog.

So here’s the thing.

My friend Daniel and I are going on the Atlantis Events - 2005 San Diego to Mexican Riviera Cruise.

We can’t wait.

But we’d like a special someone to join us. This is the official Blog kickoff of the “Get Kathy Griffin on our Cruise” appeal. Kathy, if you’re out there, come join us!
