Security Awareness for Ma, Pa and the Corporate Clueless: Mad as Hell: Why Over The Top?

Whoa…a blog dedicated to telling the story of a security expert who switched off of Wintel. Should be an interesting ride.

Problems with Office 2004 and Tiger

Since installing Tiger, I was having slowdowns with Entourage and this wierd hard drive screeching noise, like my poor powerbook was working really hard to do something.

It seems that spotlight is trying to index the Entourage Database, which of course it can’t do very well, tying up the CPU.

Adding the Microsoft User Data folder to the list of folders that spotlight doesn’t index does the trick. Not mentioned on Apple site anywhere, yet!

According to Apple’s Web site about Apple - iWork - Keynote - Compatibility, Keynote can export to Powerpoint.

Not since Tiger came on the scene. I give two snaps to Apple for allowing folks to discuss their issues on Apple discussion board. This one has come up here.

Apple has also posted a related problem in their support area related to export to Quicktime from Keynote.

It is no wonder that Apple always gets high marks for service and support. In this case, it is sort of difficult because Apple makes both products and they now do not work with each other. Keynote 2.0 is a rockin’ piece of software and I can’t wait to continue using it to do great things. The quality of display, graphics, and ease of use trump Powerpoint many times over.

As I was searching around for a tool to help me diagram value streams, I came across this review for the software program Omnigraffle: Brad DeLong’s Semi-Daily Journal: Program of the Week: OmniGraffle.

One of the commenters asked what the difference between Omnigraffle and Visio is. Well, I suppose it’s like the difference between Apple Keynote and Powerpoint. One looks, well gorgeous. The other looks like a 1992 era computer created it. Guess which one is which?

Omnigraffle takes such great advantage of Apple display technologies that almost anything I have produced with it really wows people including me. I know I probably only use about 25% of its capabilities.

I would love to see more templates available for it, even for purchase. Maybe there are some available for purchase so feel free to let me know.

Like the value stream diagrammer that I am looking for right now! I suppose I will have to create one from scratch. It’s a LEAN business process thing…..

I finally got it to do something cool. I created a contextual menu that adds a watermark to every page of a PDF file.

Quartz. It rocks. It just does.

Screenshot 01-3It’s hard to deny that when Apple decides to take something “mainstream,” it goes. I never thought I would be a big dashboard fan, but I kind of am.

A widget like this, that has traffic conditions at the ready, is very handy. What a great showcase for the technology. I wish the widget would make Seattle appear less boring, though.

This really isn’t surprising since XBox uses PowerPC processors, but it is cute to actually see.

Give Microsoft a hand for making money using their competitor’s products!

the key, the secretJust a little dust settling, but here it is.
Can someone recommend an iTunes song for me to download to commemorate? I have a free song download coupon from the Apple store and I don’t know what to get. I’m thinking something that we could call “song of the summer.” Has that song been identified yet?

I have nothing to say these days so I am going to link to my friend Matt’s blog because he has a hilarious post today about the Microsoft X-Box, and I am oh-so-proud that he has become a blogette.
