I bought this: NuPower High-Capacity 850mAh Apple iPod Replacement Lithium-Io… at OtherWorldComputing.com. For $25.99 it promises a longer life (double) battery for the iPod. $25.99 is certainly more reasonable than a 4G iPod, and my 3G does just fine.
I read a review of the installation process that seemed to say installation was a breeze.
