The article, The Seattle Times: Nation & World: HIV infection rate for blacks doubles, is disturbing.

It notes that in King County, Washington, African Americans account for 22 percent of HIV cases, where they used to account for 11 percent.

I am adding a new category to my blog - diversity. Since this is one of the things that I am interested, it’s time.

From our good friends up north, a technique to generate PDF files from Mac OS X that results in smaller file sizes. And it’s built into the OS. Gotta love it.

Background is that one of the coolest things about Mac’s drawing engine is that it natively generates PDF from any application. Problem is, the PDF’s are beautiful, but huge. Hard to send 10 MB to your PC friends…using this built in feature, I got a 10MB file down to 1 MB.

screenshot_01.jpgI have to say, there is something calming about being a part of the majority once in a while. Sure, it is poky and has all of the quirks of Windows XP that we are familiar with. But it’s slightly fun.

And it even runs Firefox….

I just love the blog community - it is so easy to find a helpful tutorial like Learning Movable Type: Category Customizations. Now in my photoblog, the slide shows work - instead of being taken to the next or previous picture in time sequence, you are taken to the next or previous picture in the same category.

iconI just updated my iMix on iTunes. Unfortunately, the iMix feature strips out anything that isn’t for sale on iTunes (e.g. other music you have purchased outside of the store). So it doesn’t truly reflect all of my great taste…icon

I wasn’t imagining it, there is a bug (or feature?) that causes Microsoft Word 2004 to appear to hang when launching a document from within Entourage. It has to do with the Microsoft Office Database Daemon, which runs on the Mac and uses up all the CPU when opening a Word document from within Entourage. Apparently, it is copying all of the contacts from Entourage into Word AutoText. By the way, who even uses this feature :). Office 2004 is a nice piece of software by the way.

[Update:] Is it really fixed?

And here’s the macro that fixes it all…(anyone have any luck with it?)

A lovely picture of me and friend Dan from Boston in a splashy Swedish mag, the February issue of “QX”. We were caught in the act of enjoying Copenhagen night life. And what’s not to enjoy. On page 46.
