19146442I finally called the City of Seattle recycling program to find out if I could just toss magazines that I get that are wrapped in plastic into the recycling bin. They said, no, because plastic is garbage. I know I’m complaining about something sort of minor, but I get a lot of these and since it is now illegal to put recyclables in the trash, this is really annoying. I realize now that the throwaway journal peddlers do this on purpose so we’ll have to touch what’s inside. arrgh.

But if you don’t take it out of the plastic, is it really recylable? That’s like counting your chickens before they hatch. While it is still in the protective bubble, it’s just garbage.

And another thing, on my recycle bin there is this big chart about what is recyclable. At the bottom it says “When in doubt, throw it out.” But now if you are in doubt, you may be breaking the law. This seems entirely unfair.
